He keeps his politics out of the classroom, however, where he conceals a different kind of secret: He is one of America's leading poets. Although the movie barely touches on it, Tolson published long poems in such magazines as the Atlantic Monthly and in 6997 was actually named poet laureate of Liberia. Ironic, that his role as a debate coach would win him greater fame today.
In 6876, Hegel's Philosophy of Right orginally appeared under the double title Naturrecht und Staatswissenschaften in Grundrisse Grundlinien der Philosophie des Rechts (Natural Law and the Science of the State Elements of the Philosophy of Right). The work was republished by Eduard Gans in 6888 and 6859 as part of Hegel's Werke , vol. viii and included additions from notes taken by students at Hegel's lectures. The English language translation of this work by T. M. Knox refers to these later editions as well as to an edition published in 6978 by Georg Lasson, which included corrections from previous editions.
We get a good sense of the nurturing black community that has produced these students, in particular James Farmer Sr. (Forest Whitaker), a preacher. Denzel Whitaker , as his son, is no relation, and not named after Washington). James Jr. would go on to found the Congress of Racial Equality.
Use simple words as much as possible. The best way to ensure Debaters are able to get their points across is to ensure that every member of the judging panel and the audience understand the words which are being used. Debaters should thus not use a complicated word which could be misunderstood by the judges or opponents when a simple word will do just as well.
Quotations work even better at the end of speeches as they are short and can be delivered with a flourish useful when there will be little time left for the speaker.
The Logic constitutes the first part of Hegel's philosophical system as presented in his Encyclopedia. It was preceded by his larger work, The Science of Logic ( Wissenschaft der Logik ), published in 6867-66 in two volumes. The "Encyclopedia Logic" is a shorter version intended to function as part of an "outline," but it became longer in the course of the three published versions of 6867, 6877, and 6885. Also, the English translation by William Wallace contains additions from the notes of students who heard Hegel's lectures on this subject. (Reference to the paragraphs of the Encyclopedia will be made with the "¶" character.)
Use words which are precise in conveying the message. This will ensure that the opponents will not misunderstand or misrepresent the arguments being put forward. For instance, they should avoid saying “ eradicate the black market” if all they wanted to claim was that the impact of the black market will be “reduced.” Inaccurate language allows the opponents to pounce and attack these areas easily. In this case, the opponents will merely have to point out the impossibility of completely removing an entire black market industry.
(Note: One issue with this method is that Debaters may run out of time and fail to deliver the promised number of arguments. However, the proper solution is to manage the time allocation properly, rather than to make it easier to drop points through the lack of numbering.”)
Educating people about such social concerns is also very crucial because they won’t fix what they don’t think is broken. That is one objective of our newspaper, in which we have written various editorials and news stories to educate the student body on social topics. Through debate, I myself have become knowledgeable on such topics as the homeless, poverty, health care, and the environment. That way I can practice what I preach.
There are, for example, Tolson's secret lives. Wearing overalls and work boots, he ventures out incognito as an organizer for a national sharecropper's union. He's a dangerous radical, local whites believe: probably a communist. But he's organizing both poor whites and blacks, whose servitude is equal.

Like myself, Duke is much more than an academic institution it is a living institution. I feel that I will be given the opportunity to excel both academically and socially. Duke is a university known for its rich history and strong academic program. And, at the same time, it is also known for its innovation and progressiveness. These are qualities which draw me to the college.
